Why Bother With a Blog?

Everybody's busy. Nobody wants to spend time doing work that isn't productive or wastes precious time. When the 111 Web Studio digital marketing team asks you to take time from your busy schedule to write a blog article or other website content, there better be a good reason for it, and there is.

A blog is a powerful tool for two reasons. It can be a great way to help other people and it can be a great way to help you get found on search engines. These are really two sides of the same coin because when people ask questions of search engines, search engines know that the best answers come from experts on the subject or leaders in the field. The content on your website or in your blog gives search engines what they need to identify you as the best answer when your question is asked.

The Best Answer to the Question

Search engines know that the best answer to any question can be delivered by the subject matter experts and thought leaders in the relevant field. Search engines only have one way to identify subject matter experts and thought leaders. They send their spiders around the web looking for content. Then they match that content up with what people type into the search box. The two results when this effort is successful are that the searcher gets the answer to his question and you get identified as the best answer to it. So when you write a blog, remember you have two audiences: people and search engines.

Helping People

When you write a blog or other content for your website, your main goal should be provide useful information that helps people. Whether it's a technical issue you can resolve or a philosophical answer to a puzzling conundrum, your unique take on the subject can be the exact answer for which someone is looking. People appreciate helpful answers and will share your content with others when it's useful. Sharing is important because it broadens your reach and creates a buzz around your content that gets noticed by search engines. If people think your content is important, search engines will think so, too.

Get Found on Search Engines

The other result of well written, helpful content is that because it is the answer to questions that are asked, it helps you get found on search engines. If your content is the best answer and is syndicated in such a way that search engines can easily find it, then you are the priority answer the search engine will deliver. By being the right answer, you are giving search engines what they crave. If Google gives a person the right answer today, then tomorrow when that person has another question, they will come back to Google. Then Google owns those eyeballs and everybody wins: the searcher gets his answer, you get to engage with a customer, advertisers get to share their message with all those eyeballs and Google gets rich. What could be better?
