Hey! Why is that Blog Upside Down?
clear

A well written blog is different from most other forms of communication in that the conclusion comes first.

Why is that?

The reason is People. All web content has two audiences: Search Engines and People. Search engines don't really care how your content is organized. They are going to read the entire article and store it away so they can use it to determine how relevant you are to a particular keyword phrase. But on the web, people are in a hurry. They may never get past the first paragraph of your blog, so you better deliver your value right there or your real audience may never receive it.

Most other forms of written communication are organized differently. When writing a scientific paper, a literary argument, a political treatise or nearly anything else, you will make a  proposition, develop your arguments and then deliver your conclusion. But if your goal is to write an effective blog article, you have to put the conclusion at the top or people may just miss it. If it is at the top, that conclusion may spur them into the action you desire. They may pick up the phone or send you an email. They may share the article without reading any further. They may actually read the rest of the article. But if it's not there, none of that may ever happen.

Valuable, relevant web content will help you get better search engine placement because it helps establish you as a thought leader and makes you the right answer to the question that is asked of Google. But in the end, your real audience is the people who will appreciate what you have delivered to them because it is valuable and relevant to them. Those people will become your customers if they know you deliver that value consistently. But they may never even see the value unless you place it where they can find it quickly... right at the top of your blog article.
